BRUNEI has shown improvements in its Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (Primary School Assessment) results, with an increase in the passing rate by more than three per cent compared to last year's PSR results.
Out of the 6,729 candidates who sat for the primary six examinations earlier this year, a total of 5,976 pupils or 88.8 per cent achieved an overall pass, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Education's Examinations Department yesterday.
The percentage of students passing in all five subjects has also increased, the statement said following the release of results. Figures in 2007 recorded an 80 per cent pass rate, while in 2006, more than 81 per cent of candidates passed their PSR exams. As many as 619 candidates or 9.2 per cent have shown excellent results, achieving five Grade A's in all the five subjects.
From an earlier report, it was stated that in 2007, only 148 students achieved A's in the five subjects, which are Bahasa Melayu, English, General Paper, Mathematics and Science.
One hundred percent pass rates among schools have also increased significantly this year. Candidates of some 48 schools have all passed a minimum of four subjects compared to last year, where 16 schools achieved the 100 per cent pass rate.
The ministry said candidates can pick up their result slips from their respective schools while private candidates can collect theirs from the Examinations Department office at the ministry during office hours. (ODM1)
