THE second phase of the 3rd B-@ctive Competition kicked off yesterday with eight teams proposing their projects to be judged for the implementation phase.
Each team gave a presentation highlighting the rationale and purposes behind their projects as well as the aims that they hope to achieve in front of three judges comprising officials of the Youth and Sports Department. They also gave an estimated budget with the expenses that would be incurred from the running of their projects.
One of the teams was BRU Camp, made up of eight individuals who have had experience participating in youth programmes and wish to share them with their peers. Their proposed project involves a form of youth training camp for self-empowerment, where participants will be camping in the wilderness and attending motivational talks as well as partaking in several youth-building activities.
"With our programme, we hope to create youths who are not only pro-active, but possess leadership qualities, an open mind as well as being youths who epitomise the concept of Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB)," said Abdul Hakim Hj Bujang, the team leader.
Another team, known as Rumpun Belia, with their project entitled "Merista Kebudayaan Kitani" place emphasis on a programme to promote Bruneian culture, particularly that of the Dusun's.
When asked why they chose to highlight the Dusun culture, Mohd Amirul Syazmi Ibrahim, the team leader and a Master's student from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), said that they initially planned to introduce the various Bruneian cultures from all four districts but with time constraints in implementing the programme, they have decided to stick to just one.
Hjh Noor Maslina Hj Sulaiman, the secretary for the competition said, "Participants of this competition will learn a lot about handling responsibilities, communicating with private and public agencies on getting sponsorship and assistance as well as administrative skills and organising a major project, so it can be said that this is a very effective programme in teaching youths about reaching out to other youths of the country."
About 15 groups will be chosen for the third phase of the competition where they will then implement their projects between June 1 to August 31. (AFH1)
