THIRTEEN teams have made their way to the final stage of the B-@ktif competition in which they will have two months, from June to August, to carry out their proposed projects which will focus on programmes for youth development. The announcement was made in conjunction with the launching of the B-@ktif website at the Youth Centre in the capital.
Among the groups that will be implementing their projects include seven from Brunei-Muara, five from Tutong and one from Belait, with project themes ranging from a charity golf tournament to one involving the importance of a balanced diet in the local community. Regarding the rationale behind the launching of the B-@ktif website, the chairman for the B-@ktif Competition Hj Abdul Malik Hj Mohammad said that it was to enable the public to gain more indepth information on the developments of the competition. The committee, he said, has also acknowledged the fact that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is the most preferred medium for reaching out to today's youth.
He also hoped that each group would make full use of the B-@ktif website to assist them in organising their respective projects. "The website could also be used to share ideas and experiences as well as problems that could be resolved collectively through discussions in blogs, Internet forums and the like," he said.
In his opening speech, the chairman also said that since the competition's debut in 2007, the working committee has been trying their best to increase the quality of the competition by adding more value to its programmes. He said that this year, the third edition of the competition, the committee has made a few changes in the way the competition is judged, mainly in Phase Three, where they have also added a panel judge who is not from the Youth and Sports Department.
"It was only fitting that we launch a website as a majority of the public rely on electronic and digital forms of communication to obtain information and knowledge regarding things that they want to find out about," he added.
The website, containing the latest information regarding the competition, background information and a picture gallery, can accessed by the public through www.belia-sukan.gov.bn/b-aktif/index.html.
Present to officiate the website launch was Director of Youth and Sports Hj Mohamad Panglima Asgar Dato Paduka Hj Abdullah.
