HER Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha, and Her Royal Highness Pengiran Isteri Azrinaz Mazhar yesterday attended a prize presentation ceremony for winners of Al-Quran recitation competition organised by the Girl Guides Association of Brunei Darussalam (PPPBD).
Accompanying Her Majesty were Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bulqiah and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, president of PPPBD.
The association's Chief Commissioner, Hjh Siti Hafsah Hj Abdul Halim, in her welcoming remarks talked about the development of the association. She disclosed that the PPPBD Headquarters have successfully completed a Surau (prayer facility) in its headquarters which can hold up to 200 congregants.
She expressed hopes that members of the association would fully make use of the facility to carry out annual religious activities for special occasions such as special prayers for National Day.
Her Majesty was then consented to present prizes to the winners of the competition.
Champion in the "Majlis and Pesuruhjaya" category was Hjh Muliana Hj Umar while Siti Fatimah Abang Zamhor and Norazrina Hj Sarbini, representing Belait and Brunei-Muara District respectively, first- and second-runner ups.
In the "Pemimpin/Pemimpin Muda" category, the winner Hjh Nuruhafidzah Hj Hasan from the Brunei-Muara District. Another representative from the Belait District, Hjh Umikalshom OKPSD Abg Hj Abu Hanafiah won second place and Hjh Khadijah Hj Muhammad Hussin in third.
In the "Tunas Puteri" category, two representatives from Brunei-Muara and one from Tutong bagged the top-three places.
Siti Waznah Major (Rtd) Hj Abd Rahman was adjudged champion while Nur Munawarah Hj Ibrahim, came second and Siti Nur Aslida Kamaruddin in third place. Winner of the "Pandu Puteri and Ranjer Puteri" category was Nur Rasikah Mohd Dahani with Fatin Afiqah Hj Tarif as the first runner-up. Both represented Brunei-Muara District. In third place was Faizzah Sabudin from the Belait District.The finals of the competition was held on May 10 in Kuala Belait.
A group of students from Sayyidina Abu Bakar Secondary School and Pengiran Anak Puteri Hjh Masna Secondary School performed a tausyeh while Brownies from Rimba II Primary School gave a nasyid performance as part of the event's programmes. (SHR1) The Brunei Times
