A NEW batch of 61 police recruits were celebrated yesterday in a zikir ceremony held in honour of their upcoming graduation from training.

The zikir, held at the Police Training Centre Multipurpose Hall at Gadong Police Headquarters, was attended by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Pehin Orang Kaya Pendikar Alam Hj Hasrin Dato Paduka Hj Sabtu. The ceremony began with a recitation of Al-Fatihah by the recruit, 5551 Mohd Dandrawi Hidyatullah Ramlee. Followed by the recital, a nasyid and tausyeh was performed by the male and female recruits of squad 2/2008.

Acting Superintendent of Police Pg Hj Muhammad Pg Hj Metali, who is also the Acting Commandant of the Police Training Centre was also present during the zikir ceremony as well as parents and family members of male and female recruits of this year's recruit Squad 2/2008.

Law Instructor from the Police Training Centre, Sgt 3497 Mohd Nur Arif Abdul Mokti said the six months of police training is to teach new recruits the core knowledge of policing.

"The training is aimed at shaping and equipping recruits to become team members who are responsible, obedient and authoritative as well as maintaining a high level of discipline in their work. New recruits have to undergo physical and mental training as well as academic," said the law instructor.

He said law classes conducted at the police training centre are to provide recruits with a better understanding of the offences, penal codes, laws and the Police General Order (PGO) which is abided by police officers whilst carrying out their duties. Trainees must also sit for exams after completing the course.

A total of 61 new recruits were signed up last year with 36 being male and 25 female. The recruits were reported to pass with flying colours in their exams and are scheduled to graduate on June 5. The Brunei Times
