29 youths attend camping trip

SOME 29 youths who participated in a camping programme received certificates last night in a thanksgiving prayer and Doa Selamat ceremony held in conjunction with the closing of the camping programme.

In his speech, Hj Sahari Hj Nasar, Chief Librarian of the Language and Literature Bureau, who was present as the guest of honour to handover the certificates to the participants, reminded the youths that they are seen as an important asset to the country and are vital to its development.

He also advised them to spend more time at the library, reading and searching for information to attain knowledge, in order to be able to contribute positively to the future of the nation.

The objective of the camping programme was to train Bruneian youths to be more independent.

Organised by the Language and Literature Bureau's Youth Library Services Club, the camping took place at the Berakas Forest Reserve from June 22 to 24, bearing the theme "Berdikari Sambil Mempelajari Ilmu Alam" (Being Independent While Learning About Nature).

During the programme, the youths engaged in several activities that included sports activities, beach-and-night-tracking, group project performances as well as religious performances.

The ceremony started with a recital of the Al-Fatihah led by one of the members of the youth club before the speech from the guest of honour.

A slide presentation of the activities conducted during the camping programme were also shown, as well as a mini-drama and a singing performance from the participants before proceeding with the certificate presentation upon conclusion of the ceremony.

Participants of the camping programme comprises members of the Language and Literature Bureau's Youth Library Services Club.

The objective of the establishment of the youth club include transforming Bruneian youths into an organised and law-abiding generation, to develop a well-rounded personality as well as to create a group with vision and commitment who are also competitive and active in attaining knowledge and skills, necessary for their success.

It was also aimed at raising the awareness of the younger generation on the necessity in supporting the country's national philosophy of Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB) or Malay Islamic Monarchy.(AFS1)
