TWO board members of local think tank, Centre for Strategic and Policy Studies (CSPS), attended the Conference of Asia-Middle East research institute on "Fostering Inter-regional Research and Collaboration" on July 5 to 7 in Singapore.
The CSPS hopes that through such collaboration and networking with experts from other institutions, the centre will be able to benchmark itself and become an internationally recognised think tank.
Organised by the recently-established research institute at the National University of Singapore-Middle East Institute, the conference, held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore was attended by Dato Dr Hj Ismail Hj Duraman and Stephen Ong.
The first day of the conference covered topics such as "Challenges Facing Institutes Studying the Middle East", Israeli and Palestinian Society and Politics" and "Potential Areas of Collaboration".
The last day of the conference began with a breakfast meeting with Singapore's Foreign Minister George Yeo, followed by a panel discussion on "The Changing Middle East Landscape".
Participants included experts and senior representatives of think tanks from China, Japan, Egypt, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Palestine, India and Singapore, among others.
The participants also networked with Zainul Abidin Rasheed, Singapore's Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Second Permanent Secretary of Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bilahari Kausikan gave the welcome note, while Ambassador-At-Large, Gopinath Pillai, chairman of the Institute of South Asian Studies Singapore, presented the introductory remark. (MJH1)
