A CONFERENCE with a theme: "Emerging and Future Security Threats and Challenges in South East Asia" is scheduled to be held on August 11 as part of Brunei International Defence Exhibition (BRIDEX) 2009.

The one-day conference which will be conducted by Jane's Information Group, BRIDEX co-organiser, in association with the Ministry of Defence of Brunei (Mindef), will examine the full spectrum of emerging threats through a series of keynote addresses and panel discussions.

Among those confirmed to deliver the keynote address include General (Rtd) Ehsan Ul Haq, Former Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of Pakistan while Ministry of Defence Singapore has Chief Executive Defence Science and Technology Agency, Soh Kong Pheng and Flag Officer Sea Training, Rear Admiral Chris A Snow CBE from UK, will join in the debate.

The conference will focus on four key areas of relevance to defence forces and national security agencies in South East Asia fast-changing defence and security environment.

The topics to be covered include the emerging and future security threats in Southeast Asia, C4ISR and the Evolution of Network Centric Capabilities, Homeland Security and Border Protection: Application of C4I to peacekeeping, humanitarian and disaster relief operations.

Other key themes to be discussed are trends and drivers of network centric technologies, operations and capabilities; utilising network enabled capability to meet homeland security and border protection threats and challenges; and Inter-operability solutions for multinational peacekeeping, humanitarian and disaster relief operations.

The conference is expected to be attended by several international audience of senior national security and defence figures and decision-makers including strategists, network centric warfare analysts, systems architects and engineers, defence procurement and acquisition executives, intelligence directors, military attaches, and influential political leaders.

The first BRIDEX Exhibition was held from May 31 to June 2, 2007, which attracted just over 100 participants from 14 countries. BRIDEX 2007 was hailed as a resounding success as it successfully attracted over 500 international visitors during the three-day event.

This year's exhibition will be held from August 12 to 15, featuring state-of-the-art defence and security equipment which are available in the world's market. (SHS1)
