Dear Editor,
Please refer to my letter published in these columns about two weeks back regarding the deteriorating standards of nursing care in our government hospitals. I was expecting some clarification and plans from our Ministry officials but was surprised to see the cold shoulder attitude even of the office bearers.
In the meantime, I have been to Vietnam on a short business trip and had to be admitted in a government hospital for one day due to minor illness. The attitude of the nurses in Vietnam is exactly opposite to what we have observed in Brunei. Unlike our nursing supervisor here, the counterpart there was so caring and soft spoken that her presence used to bring smile to all the sick ones and help them fight their sickness.
Maybe our nurses need to be sent to learn courtesy and caring instead of getting big, big foreign degrees.
