Need to address parking woes at Times Square

Dear Editor,

The thoughtlessness of Bruneian drivers is really testing my patience this Ramadhan. I was deeply disturbed yesterday to see hundreds of cars parked illegally at various spots just so that their owners could be the first to enter the Times Square Shopping and Entertainment Complex.

I understand that the designated parking space for the building is not big enough to accommodate the influx of visitors and that not every day will be a grand opening. However, the authorities should have anticipated this earlier and ensured that officers were present to deal with any unlawful practices during the opening.

Parking at roadsides, pedestrian walkways and other illegal spots could cause road accidents in addition to causing road rage, arguments among drivers and general grievances to the public.

I know some of visitors would give the excuse that they were in a hurry, or they were just "dropping in" to do a bit of grocery shopping, but these people must also think of the safety of others.

This is particularly important during this holy month when Muslims are urged to practice patience, sacrifice and discipline. Not only are they not practising these things, but also they are testing the patience of others around them.
