Dear Editor,
I've read a number of stories that you've published about power cable theft in our country. I do appreciate the effort of our police officers to run after thieves and make sure they get punished for acts that cause us all inconvenience.
It is a mystery to me though why until now the police have not launched a thorough investigation targetted at making it impossible for thieves to make money out of stolen cables.
You see, there is no way for thieves to be lured into this kind of activity if there's no one who is willing to buy the stolen goods. Why not run after shops that purchase these stolen goods?
I am not an expert in police investigations and I reckon it must be quite a task to identify which junk shops buy these stolen goods. But no question about it, the police can identify these people who condone theft. And if the police would say it is impossible to stop the spate of theft through the shops that buy these goods, then I would have to give up on the possibility that the police are capable of putting a stop to this pestering problem.
Police officers can do it. I won't even accept the possibility that this kind of job is too complicated for them. Our country's land area is so that it should not be such a big test on the police to identify buyers of stolen goods, and stop them from being participants in a crime against the government and the people.
This problem about cable theft is worrying, but it's not yet in a big scale as compared to similar problems in other countries. Nonetheless, it is better for us to nip it in the bud.
If we fail to solve this now, this would continue and could even worsen.
It would be a remarkable achievement by the police if they could put a stop to this power cable theft by tightening the nozzle on this criminal trade.
Find the buyers of stolen power cables now!
