Dear Editor,

IT IS alarming to read your report that most cardiac arrests happen in the home (Families should be trained in CPR, January 28, 2012).

Having at least one family member trained in CPR or cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can boost the chances of survival for the victim, the article quotes a Ministry of Health officer. It's good to know that the MoH is rolling out a plan to ensure at least one person in every family in Brunei can perform CPR.

Some of us learned CPR in school or college, but never had the opportunity, fortunately, to test our skill. In time, we forget how to do this. So, it would be good to encourage adults to take CPR and first aid classes.

I would suggest employers to send their staff batch by batch for this training. Or better yet, invite a trainer to teach at their workplace. The more people who can perform CPR, the better. Imagine how many lives can be saved?

CPR trained,

Gadong
