Dear Editor,
I AM very much interested to know what the latest developments are concerning road and safety from the perspective of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF). In particular, the organisation held a trial for CCTVs to be installed at the traffic lights some time ago, as reported in your newspaper. However, since then, there has been no news regarding the implementation of this technology, which is really very unfortunate.
While some may argue that the money spent on this infrastructure would not stop accidents, I feel that it can help gather information on why they take place. It is crucial in finding the appropriate solutions to reduce the number of accidents and fatalities on the road.
At the same time, if the appropriate technology had been in place, the Royal Brunei Police Force would have started prosecuting the traffic offenders, making people conscious about what they are doing behind the wheel and impelling them to stay on the right side of the law.
This is an opportunity for the RBPF traffic department to make a direct impact on an issue that has gotten out of hand.
Let's hope that all the agencies can work together to reduce the death toll on our roads this year.
Technology Sam,
Beribi
