Dear Editor,

HOSTELS are a great facility for students who reside far away from their college or university.

However, students living at hostels also have to face some problems. Usually students are given research work and projects to finish as a part of their study. But a serious issue is the fact that they are not provided with internet access at hostels to assist their research or study. Although some of them own smartphones but the connection is too slow and using the internet on phone is too expensive for students.

One solution to this problem could be the Library as there are computers with internet access. But unfortunately, the library closes at around 4pm . It is inconvenient and practically impossible for the students to do their research around that time as there are afternoon classes.

The library is not even open during weekends, so they are forced to walk all the way from the hostel to a cyber cafe. It is dangerous for female students. Secondly female students have to be back in the hostel by 6pm while male students need to be back at 8pm.

Therefore, I suggest that internet access be provided for students living at hostels so that they can do more research and get online help for their studies. Meanwhile, websites that contain immoral, inappropriate and unsuitable content can be blocked.

Other than that, library may also close at 8:30pm because students might need to photocopy and print some information since there are photocopy and print machines available at the library.
