Dear Editor,

THIS is with reference to the news article "ISB Gets Green Flag as First Eco-School in Region" published in The Brunei Times (June 23, 2012). It is great to know that ISB's efforts to become the first internationally accredited eco school in Southeast Asia bore fruit finally.

I would like to say Kudos, this shows that all the efforts made by the students, the teachers and the school itself have not been in vain. It shows that nothing is impossible. According to the article, the ISB Executive Principal stated that apart from being the first school in Southeast Asia to be awarded the Green Flag by the United Kingdom Eco Schools, the effort has also resulted in raising awareness in the school about the benefits of being green for a sustainable life.

This is really what others should aim for. This shows that the commitment shown is not only to achieve the award but to work for what they truly believe, raising awareness on environment issues and to impact everyone's life.

Some of the initiatives conducted by the international school as listed in the article are the ISB Million trees project, the ISB Borneo Global Issues Conference, the ISB School and Community Recycling Programme and many more. These initiatives show that this was not a one time thing but an ongoing process of raising awareness with commitment and dedication with the support of teachers, students and other bodies. Other schools and even communities or villages should also follow this great example. ISB's achievement is proof that raising awareness on environmental issues and actually taking action to solve some of the problems is possible with effort and commitment. It is never too late to change, not only for ourselves but also for our future generations.

Mr Green, Gadong
