G4S, the world's leading security solutions group, has signed three Bruneian information technology (IT) startups to develop concepts that the global firm can help market globally.
G4S Security Services yesterday signed a commercialisation agreement with the Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB) and a memorandum of understanding with three of iCentre's so-called business incubatees to turn the startups' ideas and concepts into commercial reality. The signing ceremony was held at the iCentre in Anggerek Desa yesterday.
The startups are John Harith Computer, PMK Support Services (24/7 Assist) and Rafiqun WSDI.
G4S will also provide networking, technical infrastructure and test-bedding where possible for the incubatees, with a view of eventually adopting these products and putting them on the local and international market, said Ambrose Nathan, general manager of G4S.
The collaboration between G4S and Rafiqun WSDI will see a combination of an enhanced version of Rafiqun's existing Brumesh wireless solution with G4S' CCTV system to enable low-cost and long-distance installations.
"It's very expensive, wired up. You've got to trench and dig, etcetera. Using Brumesh, combined with our cameras, the cost will be cut down tremendously," said Nathan. Rafiqun will be developing a second version of its 100 per cent plug-and-play wireless routers that will be able to work with G4S' cameras, Haswandi Hj Sahari, operations manager of Rafiqun WDSI said.
"It will feature Virtual Private Network capabilities in line with security requirements as well as a 3G sim card slot. We expect it to be fully-developed within two months."
John Harith Computers will be developing a double-chip Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags for G4S for access control and tracking purposes.
"One of our businesses is the storage of media, tapes, documents and things like that. Everything is tagged. And if we use RFID to tag these items, it would be much easier to see the movements," he said.
The RFID chips enable users to access secure doors at a range of up to 15ft using just one tag.
"It can also be used as access control for vehicles. There are so many combinations that we can do, so it's very complimentary," said Nathan.
PMK Support Services, the company responsible for providing 24/7 roadside assist services, will provide vehicle recovery services as a value-added service for G4S' existing V-Trak customers.
V-Trak is a GPS-based vehicle management and monitoring software developed by G4S and another iCentre incubatee, Mimit e-Technology last year.
