Brunei grab 3 gold in Korat

WITH a medal tally of three gold, one silver and nine bronze medals, Brunei currently sits at eighth place at the 4th Asean Para Games which brings together 13 countries in Korat, Thailand.

The country's first gold medal came courtesy of Alihan Muda in the men's discus F35 event on Monday.

Alihan won his second gold on Wednesday after emerging victorious in the men's shot put F35 event, while John Vianni Anak Chandau won the country's third gold medal in the men's shot put F42 event.

Meanwhile, Chandau, yesterday, was the country's sole silver medalist, placing second in the men's javelin F42 event.

Alihan also won a bronze in the men's javelin F35 event yesterday, and other bronze medalists yesterday include Annur Haiyyu Yusof in the women's 200m T12 event and Sibuang Hj Kalong in the men's shot put F11 event.

Wednesday saw Hirdan Hj Abdul Kadir win bronze in the men's shot put F56 event, and the 4x100m T20 men's relay team also added another bronze to the tally.

Tuesday's sole medalist was Mohammad Nizam Zulhilmi, who won bronze in the men's long jump F20 event.

Annur won bronze in the women's 100m T12 race on Monday, and Ak Mohd Alinor Pg Bahrin and Norhesan Hj Matala won bronze in the men's long jump F46 event and in the women's discus F12 event.

The 23 national athletes in Korat are competing in various athletics events while two are participating in the chess competition. They are accompanied by 19 athletes and are led by Hj Rosmadi Hj Md Daud, the Assistant Director of the Community Development Department.

The last edition of the Para Games which was held in Manila, Philippines saw Brunei win seven gold, six silver and four bronze medals.

Fourteen sports and 186 gold medals are up for grabs this year, with chess being newly introduced.
