FAIZ DAMIT won the 2008 HM's Birthday International Amateur Open Golf Championship after a 67 that included a 30 foot eagle putt on the first hole of the Royal Brunei Airlines Golf Club yesterday.
The 22-year-old's sizzling round included an eagle on the first hole, birdies on the second, eighth, 11th and 16th hole. He made two disappointing bogeys, on the 12th hole after he three putted on the green and on the fourth hole where he found his drive in a bad lie in the fairway bunker.
Faiz earned a spot in the 2008 Brunei Open to be hosted by the Asian Tour at the Empire Golf and Country Club on Aug 21-24.
"This win is a real confidence booster for the upcoming Brunei Open," Faiz said.
"My game was solid and hopefully this good form continues until the much awaited Brunei Open," he added.
Seruji Hj Setia was the runner-up on count back and James Lam came third after both golfers posted a pair 69s.
Lt Kol (B) Hj Abdul Rahman was overall nett winner after shooting 60, Pg Hj Ali Pg Hj Tuah was runner up on count back and Ismail Hj Chuchu came third after both golfers posted a pair of 61s.
Winner of the Senior Nett Category was Hj Momin Shawal with a 65, Hj Sabri Hj Naweh came second after shooting a 69 and third to Abg Hj Osman with a 70.
Hj Mohd Mahadi topped the VIP Nett Category with a round of 64, Lt Kol (B) Mahmud second after shooting a 65 and third to Dato Rahman Mohidin with a 69. The Brunei Times
