Speaking at the media preview, Kuah Kock Heng, President of UMW Toyota Motor said, "We are confident that this model will continue to maintain its position as the leader in its category.
Last year (2008), the Vios comprised a 32 per cent share of all Toyota vehicles sold, and as of May 2009, it comprises a 36 per cent share of total Toyota vehicles sold. With the Vios TRD, we are sure the Vios will continue its growth momentum."
Since it was launched six years ago, UMW Toyota Motor have already sold more than 130,000 units of Toyota Vios.
"When the 2nd Generation was launched in 2007, Malaysians had an additional variant — S (Sports), which became the flagship model. Last year (July 2008), we extended the Vios family to include the 'J' variant, which became the new entry-level Vios.
By then, Vios was already the firm favorite of Malaysians by becoming the number one bestseller in its category (Small PC, Non-National).
The response has simply been 'Overwhelming'," said Kuah.
With the introduction of the Toyota Vios TRD Sportivo package, the current Vios 1.5S variant will be discontinued. However, other existing Toyota Vios variants namely 1.5G, 1.5E, 1.5J automatic and 1.5J manual are still available.
Kuah also pointed out that the Toyota Vios model has been popular among the young Malaysian buyers because of its performance, economical, reliability and value.
Apart from the competitive price, the popularity of the Toyota Vios can also be attributed to its proven quality.
