UMNO, BN leaders urged to strengthen relations

DEPUTY Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on Saturday called on Sabah UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders to strengthen relations through cooperation and understanding among the parties.

Muhyiddin said party members should be wise to resolve internal problems through the engagement process to strengthen the party in the state.

"In this way, party members should understand issues and problems better as we do not want to create any prejudice," he said when speaking at a breaking of fast event at Masjid Jamek, Kampung Likas here.

He said he was also satisfied with the preparations of UMNO and BN for the coming general election which would be held at anytime.

Muhyiddin, who is also the UMNO deputy president, said BN was a party that fulfill its promises based on its development achievements including in Sabah under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

"The Prime Minister has introduced various transformation programmes which have given extraordinary impacts to the people for better livelihood, higher incomes and more comfortable lives," he said.

He also reminded all parties not to raise racial issues which could threaten national security.

Muhyiddin also congratulated Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman and Sabah government leaders for developing Sabah to become among the most progressive states in the country.

Also present were Muhyddin's wife, Puan Sri Norainee Abdul Rahman, Musa, Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and Sepanggar UMNO chief Datuk Jumat Idris.

Earlier, Muhyiddin had opened the mosque's multi-purpose hall and Knowledge Corner as well as presented zakat tithes to senior citizens, single mothers and new Muslim converts.

Muhyiddin also handed over keys to house owners of People's Housing Projects and witnessed the presentation of RM70,000 in contributions by several corporate figures to Masjid Jamek. He also announced an allocation of RM300,000 to repair Sekolah Agama Masjid Jamek as well as an undislcosed sum for the mosque.

He also represented the Prime Minister in presenting zam-zam water and dates to members of the mosque committee.Bernama
