MANAGERIAL level executives from the public and private sectors are expected to improve their management skills to cope with the increasing demand for quality management in a fast-paced global environment.
Dr Diana Cheong, director of Universiti Brunei Darussalam's (UBD) Institute for Leadership, Innovation and Advancement (ILIA) spoke of the lack of training in management skills.
She said that the institute was looking to plug that training gap to foster leaders in all professions and social roles.
She was speaking during the opening of the 10-day V-Sigma Workshop at the ILIA Training Centre in UBD.
Dr Cheong added that the leadership and executive skills covered in the workshop included basic skills, and the institute was planning to design specialised advanced workshops for each of the five areas focused in the programme.
The director added that the V-Sigma workshop consisted of five modules, including strategic negotiation, executive legal skills, key leadership skills, financial management and strategic thinking.
Among the participants of the workshop was Sharifah Ratna Rahim, the human resource manager for Learning and Development with Brunei Investment Agency (BIA).
She said BIA had 11 staff participating in the programme, and they recognised the skills which the workshop will equip their staff with to move onto the next level in their career.
ILIA was set up this year in January. It offers training programmes that are associated with leadership, innovation and executive development, and are run by specialists and prominent professionals within and outside the country. The Brunei Times
