China hails Brunei's climate action

THE Chinese Ambassador to Brunei, Tong Xiaoling, yesterday praised Brunei as an important and responsible member of the international community for contributing its utmost to addressing climate change.

Speaking at a media briefing at her residence yesterday, the ambassador spoke on Brunei's commitment and support as a member of Group of 77 to uphold the principle of "common but differentiated responsibilities", which will help define what developing countries must do to fulfil their roles as a member of the international community to help combat climate change.

She added that positive outcomes from the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference held recently in Copenhagen is attributed to the concerted efforts of developing countries, including Brunei.

She also appreciated Brunei's proactive efforts to promote the Heart of Borneo (HOB) project and the Coral Triangle Initiative (CTI), as well as Brunei's resolve to develop renewable energy.The Brunei Times
