INAKI Acha Quintana and his wife, Esther Rocamora, the couple behind The Great Tasty Tour, are currently in Brunei, tasting and blogging about the local cuisines that Brunei has to offer.
The couple will be staying in Brunei for about two weeks to indulge in all sorts of food, ranging from dishes available at well-established restaurants to home-cooked variations sold at food stalls.
After selling all their physical assets in home country Spain, Inaki and Esther, both 34, left their jobs as project manager and water engineer, respectively, to embark on a year-long journey throughout East and Southeast Asia.
The journey, ultimately named the Great Tasty Tour (www.greattasty tour.com), documents the different cuisines available in the various countries they are visiting.
Brunei is their fourth destination to date, after starting their journey on November 12 in Singapore, before heading to Melaka and Sarawak.
In an interview with The Brunei Times, Inaki and Esther spoke enthusiastically about the cuisine in Brunei, and even rated ambuyat as a favourite of theirs. Many other dishes such as katu mayang and pancut were also in their list.
They have already travelled to Tutong and Temburong in search of good food, and will be concentrating on Brunei-Muara District for the remainder of their stay.
Among their favourite sights visited in the Sultanate is the Sultan Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Mosque, which on their website they call "the most beautiful mosque".
The couple said that, other than those listed in tourist guides, it was quite easy to find places and dishes to try as there are many Bruneian blogs on food available on the Internet.
Personal blogs also contributed to their search as many Bruneians posted entries of their outings that almost always included names of restaurants, they said.
Other than updating their website, Inaki and Esther are documenting their journey on digital film in the hope of it later being made into a TV show when they finish their trip and return to Spain. The Brunei Times
