DST mobile phones subscribers can rest assured that their texts and voice calls will reach their intended recipients on New Year's eve amid concern that the huge traffic influx will cause considerable delays.
Elixsurian Hj Busu, Corporate Communications Unit Manager of DST-Group told The Brunei Times that their server capacity is capable in handling the increase in traffic.
"This is an occurrence every year, where we have a surge of traffic in terms of short messaging system (SMS) and voice calls," he said.
"We have improved over the years. So far, we have handled the issue by increasing our server capacity," he said.
He added the increase in server capacity is DST's long term project and part of DST's strategy to accommodate its subscribers. He said similar problems also occurred during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations and other festivities.
He added: " Our Internet (products) share the same platform with the data service (SMS and voice calls), there should not be any problem. The issue, in this case, will be whether that particular area have high Internet coverage or not. If the areas has low (Internet) coverage, then the loading process will be a bit slow."
He advised DST subscribers to be patient and urged them not to repetitively send the same text messages to the same person as this can cause congestion in the system.
