A MOTHER and her newly born baby escaped unhurt when their home in Kg Burung Pingai Ayer collapsed yesterday.
All their belongings were submerged and cannot be salvaged. The house of Hjh Maisalamah Hj Tengah and family collapsed due to strong current of the high tide water. The water tide was recorded at 2.7m during the mishap. Hjh Maisalamah's daughter, Hjh Siti Norizam Malai Sim has just given birth four days before the incident.
The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Hj Mawardi Hj Abdullah and the Assistant Brunei-Muara District Officer were at the scene. Emergency relief were given by several agencies to the victims. Several government agencies such as the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, the Royal Brunei Police Force, the Fire and Rescue Department and the Village Consultative Council were also at the scene yesterday morning to provide manpower assistance.
At present the victims are staying with their relatives.
In this regard, residents of Kg Ayer are advised to take precautionary measures particularly during the high tide.
