A CAR left idling by a customer in front of Desa Cafe at the Delima Satu shopping complex in Serusop seems to have been accidentally knocked into gear by a grandchild and sent plunging into the restaurant yesterday afternoon.

No one was injured in the incident.

The "proper" driver of the vehicle, an elderly man who asked to remain anonymous, told The Brunei Times that he parked his car, an ageing BMW, in front of the restaurant with the intention of making a quick stop to pick up his order.

"I left the engine of the car on, with my grandchild asleep in the car, while I went inside to pick up my order," he said.

He explained that somehow the car had switched into gear and moved forward, straight into the glass doors of the restaurant.

The entire car managed to make its way into the restaurant, knocking over the tables and chairs in its path.

An eyewitness said that luckily no one was injured and that the elderly man was at the other end of the restaurant when the accident happened.

The bystander suspected that the child might have had something to do with it. The elderly driver declined to elaborate.

The Brunei Times also contacted Berakas Police Station, the spokesperson of which said he was unable to comment at the time.

The manager of the restaurant pardoned the incident. The Brunei Times
