UK passports to be renewed in HK, Feb 1

Friday, January 22, 2010

FROM February 1, all applications for the issue or renewal of British passports will be forwarded to Hong Kong for processing, the British High Commission in Brunei announced yesterday.

Financial concerns and the rise of global passport fraud and identity theft were cited as reasons for the change.

Details on how to apply under the new system will be released with the launch next month, while the fees will remain the same. Passports can be renewed up to nine months before they expire and the "extra time" will be added to the new passport's period of validity.
