BRUNEI Darussalam will be hosting the Borneo International Big Bike Festival (BIBBF) in June, according to Darussalam Motorcycle Association (Pemoda). During the a meeting, held at the Sultan Omar 'Ali Saifuddien College in Bandar Seri Begawan, on Sunday, Pemoda President Hj Maidin Momin said that "bikers from Sabah, Sarawak, Labuan and Kalimantan will ride into Brunei as part of the event which was last held in Brunei in 2001 and 2005."
According to Pemoda's website, during the last BIBBF held in Labuan, Hj Maidin had called upon Brunei's other registered motorcycle clubs to join and get involved in the festival.
He said that although traditionally Pemoda being the biggest and oldest motorcycle club in Brunei would take up the banner and host the event, he expected other motorcycle clubs in the Sultanate to take the opportunity to participate in a more administrative capacity and not only as participants.
The decision to have other clubs involved and not just Pemoda was to give them the opportunity to be involved in the biggest motorcycles gathering in Borneo, as well as to foster closer relations. Furthermore, it is a show of brotherhood and unity between the various registered motorcycle clubs in the Sultanate.
Previously, there were roughly 300 big bikes that have rolled into Brunei.
Approximately six to seven hundred participants are expected to arrive and take part in the Big Bike Festival this year excluding local bikers.
Pemoda's own membership is currently numbered at approximately 560, with an official from the association citing that there are close to 1,000 motorcycles in the Sultanate. The Brunei Times
