Govt officials briefed on Temburong's devt projects

MEMBERS of the Ulu Temburong National Park Conservation and Development Committee were briefed on the progress of the district's seven development projects during their working visit yesterday.

Deputy Minister of Development Dato Paduka Dr Hj Mat Sunny Hj Mohd Hussein led a delegation of senior officials to the visit, including from the Ministry of Development, Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance, the Prime Minister's Office, Brunei Economic Development Board, Brunei Tourism, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Brunei Shell Petroleum and Brunei Association of Travel Agents for the visit.

Dato Paduka Dr Hj Mat Sunny is the chairman of the committee, which was established in 1997.

Hj Suhaimi Hj Gafar, acting director-general of Public Works Department, outlined the respective projects' progress, as well as future implementation.

The list of the projects include the UBD Field Study Centre, phase II of the Ulu Temburong National Park development, renovation of Outward Bound Brunei Darussalam (OBBD) Logistics and Operation Centre Phase I and II and replacement and improvement of water supply to OBBD Belalong.

Hj Suhaimi said renovations of the over $1.929 million UBD Field Study Centre was completed on June 12, 2008. Phase II of the $8.657 million Ulu Temburong National Park development is expected to be completed on this April, he said.

The project comprises building a multi-purpose hall, public toilets, extension of dining hall to kitchen, helipad, bridge and cover walkways, mechanical and electrical installations as well as a suspension bridge at Sg Apan.

One of the completed projects was the renovation of OBBD Logistics and Operation Centre (phase I).

Phase II of the OBBD Belalong project had been completed recently. It included the construction of concrete steps and ramps, covered walkways, mechanical and electrical repair and replacement works, as well as upgrading the sewerage system.

Hj Suhaimi also talked on future plans, including installing electrical connections to OBBD and UBD Field Study Centre. The proposal is to lay 11kV underground cables to OBBD Belalong Operation Centre and UBD Field Study Centre to provide electrical power supply to these sites from Ulu Temburong National Park.The Brunei Times
