ISB students took part in Model UN conference

SIX International School Brunei (ISB) participated in the Model United Nations (MUN) Conference held at the Marriott Hotel in Doha, Qatar from January 28 to 31in Qatar.

The conference has brought together over 350 student delegates from more than 60 schools in 40 different countries to discuss issues of global significance.

In committees representing various United Nations bodies, Nato, the Arab League, the World Health Organisation and the African Union, the students debated a variety of political, economic, social and health topics. Subjects ranged from nuclear non-proliferation to migrant workers in the Middle East to the international response to H1N1.

Jo Pattison, the teacher who organised the ISB delegation, said: "This was a once in a lifetime opportunity for students from Brunei to work with students from countries all over the world. There were delegations from Afghanistan, Mongolia, Ethiopia, Switzerland and China to name a few. The conference was organised by Georgetown University students and the level of debate was inspirational. It has certainly been a great experience for our students and it has given us lots of ideas for our own ISB Borneo Global Issues Conference which will take place at the International Convention Centre in March."

The students who participated in the conference were: Dean Watts, Lachlan Anderson, Sam Koay, Joanna Glover, Racheal Horas and Sue Kim Phua. They were accompanied by teachers, Jo Pattison and Caroline Haas.
