Malaysian inmate converts to Islam

A MALAYSIAN inmate has become the 21st person to embraced Islam at the Jerudong Prison.

The conversion ceremony of Voon Jong Dau, whose Muslim name is Muhammad Syhfiq Daniel Abdullah, was held at the Prison's worship room yesterday where he declared his iman (faith) in the Oneness of Allah (SWT) and the Seal of the Prophethood of Muhammad (pbuh), and embraced Islam by reciting the syahadah (declaration of faith) in the presence of a religious officer from the Da'wah Islamiah Centre and two witnesses.

Also present at the conversion ceremony were Deputy Prison Director, Hj Abd Manan Hj Abd Rahman, Acting Assistant Director of Da'wah Islamiah Centre, Hj Marzuki Hj Abd Rahman and the prison's officers and staff.

The ceremony began with the recital of Surah Al-Fatihah by Ustaz Hj Isa Hj Othman, head of religious teachers at the Jerudong Prison. To date 39 inmates have converted to Islam with 21 from the Jerudong Prison, eight from the Maraburong Prison, and 10 from the Women's Prison.
