Safety first, buy no fakes: AiTi

BRUNEI-MUARA: The public is advised to purchase radio-communication and telecommunications equipment from the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry's (AiTi) licenced dealers whose equipment have been approved and verified for use in Brunei. AiTi, in a statement, said that although the cost of imitation products are cheaper, these (imitation) products are of lower quality and, in some cases, may pose danger to the users. One of AiTi's functions under the Telecommunications Order 2001 is to approve of any radio-communications and telecommunications equipment brought into the Sultanate by verifying that the equipments are properly tested by certified laboratories, providing assurance that they are working at safe international standards and pose no danger to the users. Anyone found importing radio-communications and telecommunications equipment which have not been approved by AiTi shall be, upon conviction, liable to a fine not exceeding $10,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years or both. Without the required licence by AiTi, it is considered an offence under the Telecommunications Order 2001 to import and resell radio-communications and telecommunications equipments and to use the radio frequency spectrum in Brunei.
