RTB staff pleads not guilty to graft

A RADIO Television Brunei (RTB) employee charged with submitting a false payment claim of $100 yesterday pleaded not guilty in Magistrate's Court.

Sa'adiah Tudin, a clerk at the Youth and Children Unit under RTB's television division, is accused of making the false claim in July 2007 for the involvement of one local in RTB's Fun-Time television programme.

The defendant is one of three RTB employees charged with graft in relation to submitting false payment claims under RTB's Fun-Time television programme. The two other defendants in the case, Hjh Salmayah Hj Mohd Hussein and Norjanah Hj Japar, collectively face 10 charges for making false payment claims amounting to $7,025 between February and July 2007.

Sa'adiah is charged under Section 6(c) of the Prevention of Corruption Act (chapter 131), which carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison and a $30,000 fine.

Her trial is set to begin on October 18.The Brunei Times
