TWO less fortunate families in Temburong were blessed with new homes yesterday, thanks to the combined contribution from the Community Development Department (Japem) and Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation (YSHHB) in constructing houses under the Yayasan Housing Scheme.

Ceremonies to mark the handover of the houses were led by Managing Director of YSHHB Dato Paduka Hj Ali Hashim Hj Daud, accompanied by an entourage of Japem and YSHHB officers and the chief of Mukim Amo and its residents.

Anisah Mohd Salleh @Radoi Anak Achun at Kampung Amo 'A' received a $45,000 house that can accommodate three bedrooms, a living room, bathroom and kitchen.

Siti Aidah Abdullah @Siti Aidah Anak Ekin at Kampung Selangan was also presented with a similar three-bedroom house.

Houses constructed under the YSHHB Housing Scheme are one of the projects to improve the welfare of residents.

The scheme is also dedicated to helping new Muslim converts in the country who cannot afford to build their own houses and meet the other stipulated criteria.

It is hoped that the houses would provide a better standard of living for the new Muslim converts, so that they can perform their duties to Allah (SWT), such as conducting prayers in a more comfortable environment.

Since its establishment in 1996, YSHHB has built 135 houses, with 33 in Temburong district.
