POLICE have still not been able to identify the body of a man that was found in a drain near the entrance of the Berakas Power Station on March 1.
Acting Head of the Public Relations Unit of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) DSP Nur Haidah Hj Abd Halim told The Brunei Times that the man's fingerprints could not be found on the Department of Immigration's database, indicating a likelihood that he did not have an identity card.
An officer involved in the case said that although the body was badly decomposed, the fingers of the deceased were mummified so they were able to get fingerprints.
Previously, the officer, who wished to be unnamed, said that some Indian workers had come forward as they suspected the body was that of their friend. They had been asked to bring in his personal belongings.
Police have been unable to ascertain the cause of death due to the advanced stage of decomposition the body was found in.
The man was 5 foot 3 inches tall, approximately 45 years old, and a post mortem revealed that he had been dead for five to seven days before being found.
Police on the scene said that the body was found face down in the drain, barefooted, wearing only trousers with the brand name "ICE" on the back.
Anyone with any information are asked to report to the Berakas Police Station, police hotline 993 or the nearest police station. The Brunei Times
