Agreements signed to begin two major energy studies

TWO official signing ceremonies were held yesterday to mark the start of two groundbreaking energy studies commissioned by the Centre for Strategic and Policy Studies (CSPS) during a conference on Alternative Energy & Energy Efficiency: Fuelling Economic Growth and Diversification for Brunei Darussalam

Present to witness the two signatories held at the Empire Hotel & Country Club's Grand Hall was the Minister of energy Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (rtd) Dato Seri Paduka Hj Mohammad Yasmin Hj Umar.

Dato Paduka Dr. Hj Ismail Hj Duraman, Executive Director of CSPS exchanged the signed documents with Dr. Hiroshi Komiyama, Chairman of Mitsubishi Research Institute (MRI), witnessed by the Energy Minister Pehin Dato Seri Paduka Hj Mohammad Yasmin and Ambassador of Japan, Mr Hirose Noriki.

The signing ceremony between MRI Japan and CSPS Brunei marked the start of a nationwide study for Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EEC) roadmap.

Dato Paduka Dr. Hj Ismail also exchanged the signed documents with Bob Elton, Executive Chair, Powertech Labs Inc, Canada, witnessed by the Energy Minister and the High Commissioner of Canada to Brunei Wendell Sanford.

The signing between Powertech Labs Inc Canada and CSPS mark the start of a nationwide feasibility study on alternative energy source that would be commercially viable and contribute as a significant engine of growth, which is aligned with Brunei's 30-year National Development Plan.

Both studies are expected to be completed within eight months.

Some 200 invited participants attended the two-day energy conference organised by CSPS, including key speakers from Japan, Singapore and Canada. The conference concludes today, covering topics on Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy.
