Internet service interruption

Thursday, September 2, 2010

Internet users may experience slower services due to cable faults, according to local service provider Telekom Brunei Berhad.

The telco said that one of its international uplinks connecting Internet transit via the Asia-America Gateway (AAG) Submarine Cable Systems is currently down at the Lantau Cable Station in Hong Kong.

TelBru and the AAG consortium will ensure any interruptions caused by this unforeseen circumstance will be kept at a minimal, the Telbru press statement read.

According to an officer from TelBru, the international uplink was down since August 27 and was expected to be repaired by September 7.

TelBru would also like to advise Internet users that if they experience slow or intermittent services, they can contact TelBru Customer Care Centre at 111 for further assistance.

The AAG is a direct 20,000 kilometre high bandwidth fiber optic submarine cable system linking 10 locations in eight countries, namely Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei, Hong Kong and the Philippines to the USA via Guam, Hawaii and California (San Luis Obispo).

It was designed to support the burgeoning demand for voice, IP/data and video traffic between Southeast Asia and the US with a high degree of inter-connectivity with high bandwidth systems.

TelBru also expressed its sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused. — Hana Roslan
