'Kurnia' for 10,758 people

Underprivileged families in Brunei who are in need of assistance to make preparations for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri were bestowed with Kurnia Peribadi or personal gifts from His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday.

In another act of benevolence towards the rakyat, the caring monarch gave out personal Hari Raya gifts to about 10,758 people in ceremonies held concurrently throughout the nation, based on information released by the Prime Minister's Office.

But more than the personal gifts, His Majesty also gave his people in all four districts of the Sultanate the exceptional chance to see and be with four of his sons, who represented him during the gift-giving ceremonies.

The selected recipients of the Kurnia Peribadi were divided into five categories, namely recipients of the Department of Community Development (Japem) assistance programme, orphans, individuals with special needs, patients with special welfare assistance and zakat (tithe) recipients registered with Islamic Religious Council.

Representing the monarch in an event held at the Brunei International Defence Exhibition and Conference (BRIDEX) in Brunei-Muara was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office.

About 6,810 people made up of less fortunate families in the Brunei-Muara District received the Kurnia Peribadi (personal gifts) from the monarch as a means to help them make preparations for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Donned in black cara melayu (traditional Malay attire), the Crown Prince was welcomed by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Paduka Hj Hazair Hj Abdullah upon his arrival.

The ceremony started with the recital of the Al-Fatihah and a doa selamat read by Pehin Datu Imam Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Abdul Hamid Bakal.

The recipients' faces lit up with smiles as they lined up and made their way into a designated main area at the Bridex building where the Crown Prince personally handed over the gifts to them.

In Belait District, His Royal Highness Prince Haji 'Abdul 'Azim represented the monarch in handing over the Kurnia Peribadi to a total of 1,562 recipients.

Also present at the ceremony held at the 3rd Batallion Camp in Lumut were Minister of Development Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Suyoi Hj Osman, and Minister of Energy Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Paduka Hj Mohammad Yasmin Hj Umar.

In Tutong District, a total of 1,883 residents were selected to receive the personal gifts during a ceremony that took place at the Tutong Community Hall.

Gracing the ceremony was His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik, who distributed the gifts to each of the recipients accompanied by Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Othman as well as the Acting Tutong District Officer Hj Muhammad Suffian Hj Bungsu.

HRH Prince 'Abdul Malik's arrival at the district's Community Hall was greeted with performances by the Religious Teachers Choir Group of the Tutong District performed the Tausyeh, Marhaban, Ahlan and Wasahlan.

Welcoming the prince was Minister of Communications Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Abdullah Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar, Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Datin Hjh Adina Othman, and Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Hj Bahrom Pengiran Hj Bahar.

Residents of Temburong District were delighted when His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen had flown to Temburong to represent his father and hand over the personal gifts to about 553 recipients.

His Royal Highness the Prince was welcomed by Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman.
