Enjoyments becomes forbidden if it becomes associated with negligence, idleness and arrogance, said the State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Hj Abdul Aziz Juned in a special lecture to mark the arrival of Aidil Fitri.
"There is negligence and idleness because of overenjoyment and the same thing goes for arrogance as people swim in arrogance because of rank, power and wealth," he said.
He added that there are those who like to bring down others with these three forms of forbidden enjoyment, an action that is abhorred by Allah SWT.
The State Mufti said there were forms of happiness that was allowed, but that were also forms that were not allowed. "There are different types of enjoyment that's allowed and enjoyment that is forbidden," he said. Enjoyment should be celebrated by embracing the Holy Quran as it is the greatest gift.
He said that the Quran brings stories of Heaven and Muslims should be happy and be more motivated to do good deeds that can earn them a place in paradise.
The Quran also highlights the existence of rewards and that Muslims should be happy to make efforts to obtain it, he added.
The existence of Hell as well as sinning is also mentioned in the holy book to serve as warning to avoid all its dangers as well as make efforts to avoid sinning.
Life and death, the hereafter and hisab should also be accepted and Muslims should be grateful of its existence. "We should be humbled that Allah SWT informs us of the divine secrets where we can from now on make preparations to face it," he said.
When it comes to shedding tears of joy, it should not be because you won first place in sports or that you are champion of a singing competition, he said.
"When you shed tears, it should be because you have succeeded in fasting during the Ramadhan month, or when you completed 30 juz of the Quran or having completed tarawih prayers for a month," he said.
"We should cry here, we should be overwhelmed, we should be happy to have completed our obligation for Allah SWT."
"If we shed our tears because of this, it means that the tears are shed towards Allah's greatness," he added. — Hana Roslan
