Khatam al-Quran livens Ramadhan

A TOTAL of 315 personnel from Islamic Studies Department were celebrated in a Khatam al-Quran ceremony at Jame' 'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah in Kg Kiarong yesterday.

The participants of the ceremony, which was held in conjunction with the Nuzul al-Quran celebration, also include religious teachers from religious schools, secondary and vocational as well as Co-curriculum and Continuing Education unit nationwide.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ustaz Hj Harun Hj Junid attended the ceremony held for the department's personnel in all the four districts.

The event aimed at enlivening the month of Ramadhan with recital of Quranic verses in addition to strengthening the relationship and cooperation between the department's personnel.

The Khatam ceremony begins with the recital of Surah al-Fatihah led by the deputy permanent secretary, followed by the recital of short quranic verses (from Surah ad-Dhuha to Surah al-Masad) by the celebrants. The ceremony concluded with the recital of Takhtim, Dikir marhaban and Doa selamat.

In the afternoon, the Mosque Affairs Department, under the Ministry of Religious Affairs concluded its series of Tadarus (mass recital of Al-Quran) with a khatam al-Quran ceremony yesterday at Sufri Bolkiah mosque.

The ministry began its tadarus on August 1 at the Sultan Omar 'Ali Saifuddien (Soas) Mosque in the Brunei-Muara district. The delegation then continued the tadarus at the main mosque in Temburong on August 4.

Tutong's Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah, Kg Sungai Kelugos mosque hosted the delegation on August 6. Their final destination was at Muhammad Jamalul Alam mosque in Belait.

The tadarus aimed at enlivening mosques in the country especially during the month of Ramadhan and to increase one's religious deeds in the holy month.

In attendance was the Minister of Religious Affairs, Pg Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohammad Pg Hj Abd Rahman who led the recital of Surah Al-Fatihah marking the start of the ceremony.

Some 300 of the ministry's personnel and residence of villages around the area participated in the ceremony which saw the recital of Takhtim and Tahlil by Imam Hj Muslim Hj Abd Razak. The doa khatam was recited by mosque affairs officer, Hj Hasyim Hj Abdullah.

Another Mosque Affairs officer, Zulkifli Hj Murad, recited the doa tahlil. The delegation also took the opportunity to pray for His Majesty, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, and the nation which was led by Pg Hj Haslin Pg Hj Ali.

One leaf blower was also presented by the minister as a wakaf (religious donation), on behalf of the ministry to representative of Sufri Bolkiah mosque.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Education (MoE) also held a tadarus ceremony at the residence of its Deputy Minister, Dato Seri Setia Hj Yusoff Hj Ismail, in Kampung Selayun.

Present at the event was the Minister of Education, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Abu Bakar Hj Apong. Also in attendance were senior officers and officers from the MoE.

Upon arrival, Pehin Dato Dr Hj Abu Bakar was greeted by the Deputy Minister Dato Hj Yusoff. To begin the tadarus ceremony, a mass recital of the Surah Al-Fatihah was held and led by the Deputy Minister Dato Hj Yusoff.

After the Tadarus, a Tahlil ceremony and Doa arwah (prayers for the deceased) took place.

The event continued with Iftar (breaking of the fast), where all guests present at the event broke their fast together. After breaking the fast, Maghrib prayers were held in congregation. — (Rasidah Bakar/Nurhamiza Hj Roslan)
