AS THE Chinese community in the country practice the tradition of visiting one to another during the lunar new year celebration, well-known and respected businessman Pehin Kapitan China Kornia Diraja Dato Paduka Lau Ah Kok received prominent Chinese leaders from all four districts in the Sultanate yesterday.
At a warm and joyous gathering at Pehin Dato Lau's residence in Kg Manggis Jalan Muara, prominent Chinese figures in the country expressed the hope for more prosperity for Brunei Darussalam in the new year.
Chua Thian Jin, Chairman of Tokong China Temple in the Capital, welcomed the lunar new year with gratitude and hoped for stronger friendship among the people in the country.
"I hope to see advancement in the development of the country," said Chua.
The Tokong China Temple chairman said that the gathering portrayed the tradition of celebrating Chinese New Year where people pay respect to their elders and live in harmony with other people from various backgrounds.
During the gathering, Pehin Dato Lau shared a light moment with his guests among whom were Pehin Dato Lau's Personal Assistant Jay Choo Jun Lee; Board of Director of Chung Hwa Middle School in Bandar Seri Begawan Lee Nyuk On; and Chairman of Chung Lian School Sg Liang Wong Ming Ching.
Also present were Chairman of Board of Directors for Chung Hwa School Tutong Soon Seng Lee, a prominent businessman from Temburong Ang Beng Hui and a lawyer from Kuala Belait Liu Hwa Yuan as well as Seri Mulia Sarjana School and Seri Mulia Sarjana International Chief Executive Officer Dr Mary Lim.
