A CHARITY drive, "KatakIjau Bru Cup Cake for National Day Celebration" was organised by the KatakIjau Humanitarian Relief Support Group to raise funds for the Fund of Washi Tropical Storm, at Pusat Belia yesterday.

The drive was held in commemoration of the country's 28th National Day and KatakIjau's 2nd anniversary where the highlight of the charity drive was a collection of cupcakes totalling up to almost 1,000, arranged to resemble the national flag of Brunei Darussalam.

According to a member of KatakIjau, Hasmadi Mohd Mordi, the charity drive was aimed to foster the spirit of patriotism and love for the country through an emphasis on nationalism.

"Bru Cup Cake is also a platform to give youths a chance to be involved in national events," said Hasmadi in his speech.

He added that youth involvement in such events will benefit youth themselves.

Part of the proceeds from the sales will also be channelled to Charity Fund of KatakIjau.

Hasmadi told The Brunei Times that the cupcakes were donated by several sponsors where they were given a booth to sell their products as well.

Present to officiate the Bru Cup Cake event was Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Datin Paduka Hjh Adina Othman.

During the event, the deputy minister was seen chipping in her support by purchasing a few cupcakes herself.

KatakIjau is actively involved in humanitarian efforts and community service to help people in needs locally and abroad.

Among the activities KatakIjau organised in the past include raising more than $3,000 for the Thailand and Cambodia Flood Relief Fund from youth-related activities.
