SIX youths were chosen yesterday, during the district-level Quran recitation competition finals held at the Community Hall Complex, to represent Tutong at the upcoming National Level Youth Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran.

The qari category was topped by Ak Adi Nazri Pg Hj Jofri, followed by Abd Wafiy Hj Abd Kadiroshman in second place and Mohd Amiruddin Hj Mohd Deli in third place.

Meanwhile, Nurul Amirah Maidin emerged as the champion for the qariah category, ahead of Hana Hasibah Hj Bagol in second place and Nur Nadzirah Hj Kadiroshman who scored third place.

Nurul Amirah, 18, told The Brunei Times that she was grateful to Allah SWT for blessing her with the opportunity to win the district-level competition finals.

She explained that preparation is key to a successful performance, whereby the 'A' Level student attributed her win to the rigorous training conducted over several months in the run up to the district-level competition finals yesterday.

"I used to train well ahead of the finals with instructors provided by the National Level Youth Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran scheme," she said.

Nurul Amirah urged aspiring qariah participants "not to give up, because everything happens for a reason".

With continued dedication and ongoing training, the qariah champion is confident that she will secure a win at the upcoming National Level Youth Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran.

As for Abd Wafiy, he explained that he was overjoyed to grab second place in the qari catergory as he previously failed to gain a place in the rankings during last year's district-level competition finals.

The six winners yesterday competed against 12 finalists, aged between 17 and 22 years old, in the hope to represent Tutong at the upcoming National Level Youth Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran.

According to Kamil Lamat, Acting Head of the Tutong Youth and Sports Branch, among the objectives of the National Level Youth Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran is to encourage more youth to read Al-Quran and to implement the teachings of the holy book.

He elaborated in his speech that the competition also acts as a platform to identify and nurture new talent in Quran recitation among the youth.

Present at the district-level competition finals yesterday as the guest of honour was Hj Azhar Hj Ahmad, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Officer, who presented the trophies to the winners.

Also in attendance were Legislative Council (LegCo) members Yang Berhomat Orang Kaya Maha Bijaya Hj Osman Uking, Yang Berhormat Hj Ramli Hj Lamit, and Yang Berhormat Orang Kaya Jaya Putera Dato Paduka Hj Muhd Taha Abd Rauf. The Brunei Times
