BRUNEIANS were urged to get to know and enjoy their own country rather than spend their money abroad. Deputy Commissioner of Pakistan to Brunei Darussalam Imran Yawer shared his views with The Brunei Times during an overnight trip to Wasai Bedanu Recreational Park at Kg Kiudang Mungkom, Tutong yesterday.

Yawer, alongside nine members from the Pakistan community, went jungle trekking and camping to explore the local spot known for its waterfall and a recently discovered cave.

"Most Bruneians should get to know this place. But instead, locals chose to go to places such as Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia," Yawer said.

"Bruneians should come here and generate money for the Kg Kiudang Mungkom residents. It is a wonderful place."

He urged Bruneians to visit local attractions dotted around the country rather than spending money shopping outside of the country.

The outgoing Deputy High Commissioner shared that the Pakistan community here is active and enjoys places of interest such as Temburong. "We have trekked to Mount Pagon, the highest peak in Brunei at 1850m in Temburong. It is a beautiful place. We have also explored the whole of Temburong," said the avid explorer.

"I have been here for six years. Some of the places I had visited include Kuala Belalong and Bukit Patoi. There are trekking paths and always something to see in the country."

"We like to get to know the Brunei culture and the people," explained Yawer.

During the overnight trip, Kg Kiudang Mungkom MPK had provided the Pakistan entourage with tents, camping materials, food and guided tour inside the area.

This warm hospitality of Kg Kiudang Mungkom residents was greatly appreciated by Yousuf Sani, one of the members from the Pakistan entourage. "The Kg Kiudang Mungkom residents were very cooperative and they had pampered us with their hospitality," said the Sixth Form Physics teacher at Sekolah Menengah Arab Lelaki Hassanal Bolkiah.
