'Bridge completion will boost opportunities'

TEMBURONG Legislative Council member hoped the increased accessibility to the district will provide opportunities for the district to expand its products and services particularly their 'One Village, One Product' project.

Yang Berhormat Hj Sulaiman Hj Ahad talked to The Brunei Times at the sideline of the ground breaking ceremony for the trans-boundary bridge between Temburong and Limbang held yesterday by the Pandaruan river in Limbang yesterday.

YB Hj Sulaiman was one of the Brunei delegation members to Limbang for the ground breaking ceremony.

"We hope that the bridge will create the spin-off that we expect in the socio-economy, infrastructural development and tourism, but this will require proper management as well."

"Both sides need to make sure that there is proper administration and management of the bridge, so that the bridge will achieve its objectives," YB Hj Sulaiman added.

The bridge aims to smoothen travel for Bruneians and Malaysians passing through Temburong and Limbang. It would also facilitate the movement of land vehicles across the river during peak hours, weekends and holiday seasons.

"The increase accessibility will enable us to transport our goods and products to the capital and other districts in bigger quantities," YB Hj Sulaiman added.

"The bridge will solve the long standing problems that we had for years such as long queue and waiting time (to board the ferry). The bridge, InsyaAllah, will facilitate and improve the quality of life of Temburong residents and those in Sarawak (Limbang, Lawas and Miri)," he said.

With the decades-long wish to be a reality, the bridge which had been a persistent topic in many of Legislative Council sessions, YB Hj Sulaiman said he will continue to push for Temburong's infrastructural projects and development.

On top of the grassroots leader's list now is the residents' hope to see the bridge connecting Bandar Seri Begawan to Temburong realised, or at least considered.

YB Hj Sulaiman was told that the result of the feasibility studies (of the bridge) had been compiled but he did not know the result.
