THE Kampung Serdang Village Consultative Council (MPK) is planning to upgrade the Serdang Hill recreational site and include it as one of the village products under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) One Village One Product (OVOP) programme.
In an interview with The Brunei Times, Mohamad Bakar, Village Chief of Kampung Serdang said they will be including the upgrading of Serdang Hill in their annual KgSerdang MPK planning.
The upgrade will include the building of a hut for visitors to rest as this was recommended, said Mohamad.
Mohamad said that during the visit of the Assistant District Officer of Brunei-Muara Hj Abdul Hamid Dato Hj Abdullah to launch Serdang Hill yesterday, he recommended for a hut to be built at one area along the Serdang Hill path for visitors to rest.
Mohamad said that further promotion of the Serdang Hill recreational site and development of the site as one of the village's products under the OVOP programme would also be made part of the Kampung Serdang MPK annual planning.
He continued to say that Serdang Hill has received a lot of visitors from inside and outside the country.
Currently, he said, the main products of Kampung Serdang are home made cakes and seafood products such as dried salted fish.
"InsyaAllah, we will participate in next Excellent Village Award (AKC) programme and the products we are going to contest are our homemade food products and seafood products."
The making of cakes and dried salted fish is still at small scale, Mohamad further said. Although there were villagers who produced dried salted fish they are not many, he added.
The Kampung Serdang MPK are going to increase their members to help in the development of the village's products, Mohamad said.
The development of Serdang Hill recreational site began in 2006. The site was beautified and developed as a place of recreation by villagers of Kampung Serdang.
It was launched yesterday by the Assistant District Officer of Brunei-Muara District Hj Abdul Hamid.
The peak of Serdang Hill is about 500 metres above sea level and the hill track is about 1,000 metres. Along the track, visitors would be able to see flora and fauna such as sumboi-sumboi (pitcher plant), wild orchids and many more.
