RESIDENTS of Mukim Kilanas will soon be able to carry out their religious duties at a recently completed mosque following a cleaning campaign held at the vicinity yesterday.

The mosque sits on a five-acre land, and cost a total of $3.133 million. It was one of the projects under National Development Plan (RKN) 2007-2012, which began in April 14, 2010, and was carried out by MIM Sdn Bhd.

Accommodating 1,000 worshippers, the mosque has separate prayer halls for males and females, a storeroom, a PA system room, a multi-purpose hall, a mosque affairs unit, imam and bilal room, a room for funeral management, kitchen, library and IT room, toilets, and separate ablution sections for males and females, a statement from the Mosque Affairs Department read yesterday.

The cleaning campaign yesterday started with a recital of the Surah Al-Fatihah and was followed by a doa selamat (thanksgiving prayer) led by Mosque Affairs Department Officer Hj Zaidin Hj Md Nor.

The staff used lightly saturated sand to rub and clean parts of the new section before a general cleaning was carried out, as practised in every tayammum (cleaning using sand or dust in place of water) ceremony.

The cleaning was carried out to ensure the overall cleanliness of the mosque, prior to the setting up of furniture and its full operations.

Among the requirements to ensure an ideal solat (daily prayers) is achieved is to ensure that the place of worship is clean.

Present as guest of honour at the event was the Deputy Permanent Secretary of Religious Affairs Hj Abdul Aziz Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Hj Md Yussof, who also joined the cleaning campaign.

Also assisting the cleaning activity was the mosque's takmir committee, the public and several personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department who helped ease the cleaning works with their equipment. The Brunei Times
