THE Ministry of Health is in the process of formulating a National Blood Policy that aimed to further strengthen and improve the management of blood and blood-related products in the country.

Speaking during the ceremony to mark the World Blood Donor Day yesterday, Minister of Health, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Adanan Begawan Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Hj Md Yusof said this policy would outline the organisational, management, technical, logistics and legal aspects necessary for the development of the National Blood System in the short and long run.

"(This policy) will (therefore) be in line with (the ministry's) continued effort to guarantee that the quality and safety of preparing and managing blood and blood-products are consistent throughout the country and adhere to the international standards," Pehin Dato Hj Adanan said.

He went on to say that the preparation to draft this National Blood Policy, in terms of reviewing best practices and basing these on international guidelines like the World Health Organisation's, will be led by Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital Laboratory Services Department.
