THERE are lessons from the Isra' Mikraj event that Muslims can use as valuable guides in life, a lecturer from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) said yesterday.

"Isra' Mikraj is a mukjizat (miracle), given only to Rasulullah Sallalahu Alaihi Wassallam as a signs of power and strength of Allah SWT," Dr Azme Hj Matali reminded officers and staff of the Ministry of Education (MoE) in a religious talk organised to mark the event.

The most important part of the journey was the order from Allah SWT for Muslims to pray five times a day - performing prayers is the second pillar of Islam which was shortened from 50 times.

"Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) asked Allah SWT for the load to be lightened several times over and ultimately Allah SWT reduced the number to five times a day. However, the value of the prayer would still be equivalent to that of praying 50 times a day," said Dr Azme adding that this was the time when prayers were made obligatory.

The Minister of Education, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Abu Bakar Hj Apong, attended the event which was held at the ministry's Main Hall at the new building in Berakas.
