BRUNEI'S two representatives at the Musabaqah Tilawah Al-Quran International, also known as the Jam'iyyatul Qurra' Wal Huffazh, in Indonesia returned yesterday after competing against some of the top qari (reciters) from other countries.
A Doa Kesyukuran was held at the VIP Room of the Brunei International Airport, Berakas, in honour of the representatives and the accompanying members of the Brunei delegation.
Mohd Fakhirin Dato Hj Zainal scored third place in the Memorisation of Al-Quran's 30 Juzu' category, while Hj Muhd Fahmi Hj Metussin came fourth in the Tilawah Qiraat Sab'ah Mujawwadah category.
According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA), Mohd Fakhirin and Hj Muhd Fahmi were the first reciters to represent the Sultanate at the competition in Indonesia.
Present to welcome the delegation upon arrival yesterday was Hj Harun Hj Junid, acting permanent secretary at MoRA; Hj Zulkifli Penglima Asgar Dato Paduka Hj Abdullah, director of Administration at MoRA; and senior administrative officer Pg Hj Anuar Pg Seri Indera Pg Hj Ismail.
The Doa Kesyukuran was followed by a Dikir Marhaban and Doa Selamat. Indonesia's Jam'iyyatul Qurra' Wal Huffazh ran from July 3 until July 8.
